Energy Farmers has teamed up with Wayne Phillips from Avon Engineering in Northam, Western Australia to look at how we are going to handle biochar and get it back into the soil.
Wayne and his family have a long association with the WA Ag industry with machines such as the Phillips Acre Master tractor and Phillips Rotory Harrow. The New Horizon Subsoil Extruder is his latest development.
The subsoiler can handle a wide range of biomass, including manures and compost planting it deep into the soil and could have a wide range of applications in the agricultural, horticultural and waste management sectors.
The subsoiler has been field tested during the 2012 season across various parts of the Western Australian wheatbelt and results are expected soon.
Although still at developmental stage, we are very excited about its potential to negate the need to use non-renewable fossil based fertiliser.
